modern builds of ipxe
I just noticed that the ipxe.iso build on the website is like four years old according to the git page. So that if you want to get modern builds, you have to compile from source.
Is that true?

No; the ipxe.iso image is an hourly build from the current master branch.

What made you think it was four years old?
